Kalamazoo, MI- Alex Okicki registered 24 saves en route to his second shutout of the season, as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings beat the Jamestown Ironmen by a score of 3-0 on Sunday.
The Jr. K-Wings started the scoring early in the first, as it only took 1:51 for them to find the back of the net. Alex Brooks netted his third of the season when he joined the rush from the blue line and poked a backhander past Joe Gladnick.
With under five to play in the opening period and working with a power play, Kalamazoo lit the lamp for the second time on the day to take a 2-0 lead. Jacob McDowell tallied his eleventh of the season on a wrist shot from the low slot.
Kalamazoo padded their lead to three, 13:15 into the second period. Chris Leone blasted a one-timer from the right-wing side for his third of the season. Assisting on the goal was Anthony Appleyard, who tallied his 17th assist, giving him 25 points, most among Kalamazoo defensemen.
No scoring in the third, resulted in a 3-0 Kalamazoo victory, that saw Okicki improve his record to 13-7-1 on the season.
The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West again on Sunday, February 25th against the St. Louis Bandits.
