Carey Scores Team-Leading 17th Goal

SOLDOTNA, Alaska - Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) scoredhis team-leading 17th goal, but it wasn't enough for the Wild in a 2-1 loss Saturday to the Kenai River Brown Bears at the Soldotna Sports Centerin Soldotna, Alaska. The win allowed the Brown Bears to force a split in thisweekend's series after the Wild won the first game of the series Friday, 2-1.

Bobby Murphy staked the BrownBears to an early 1-0 lead when he scored on a quick snap shot from the top ofthe far circle during a 3-on-2 rush with 13:09 remaining in the first stanza.Matt Thompson and Ryan Walker assisted.

The Wild tied up the contest 6:53into the second frame when Carey notched a power-play goal. Carey wentcoast-to-coast, making just one move at the Kenai River blue line, beforeworking into the far circle where he lifted a high backhander that beat AustinSeverson. Dylan Abood (Centennial,Colo.) picked up the loan assist.

The Brown Bears reclaimed thelead, 2-1, with 7:42 remaining before the second intermission when Thompson litthe lamp from a sharp angle. Raymond Stenehjem and Murphy assisted on what wasthe eventual game-winning goal.

Severson made 18 saves on 19shots for the Brown Bears while GregLewis (Mars, Pa.) stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced. Wenatchee scored onepower-play goal on six chances while Kenai River went 0-for-4 on theman-advantage.

Thompson and Murphy led KenaiRiver with a goal and an assist apiece.

The Wild (24-14-4) will continuetheir Alaskan road trip with a 2-game series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs onTuesday and Wednesday. Both games will begin at 8:30 p.m. (PST).
