JackHammers Acquire Toomey From Gateway

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers acquired infielder Clint Toomey from the Gateway Grizzlies today in exchange for a player to be named later. Toomey will be in uniform for tonight's game with Fargo-Moorhead.

Toomey, 24, joins the JackHammers after appearing in seven games for the Grizzlies this season. The second baseman was an All-Star last season for Texarkana in the Continental League, hitting .336 with 29 runs batted in, 33 stolen bases and a .480 on-base percentage in 57 games.

"Clint is a hard-nosed, versatile player that will fill a key role for our team as we move forward," commented JackHammers Manager Chad Parker.

The Mobile, Alabama native played two seasons at the University of South Alabama and hit over .300 in each season. Toomey batted .302 his senior year in 2008 and an impressive .356 as the junior with a .437 on-base percentage. He spent his freshman year at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and led the team with a .341 batting average. Toomey was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year for his accomplishments that season.

In other moves, the JackHammers released infielder Jorge Rodriguez and traded right-handed pitcher Sean Teague to the Wichita Wingnuts (American Association) for a player to be named later.
