Flyers Rally Late, Lose Series to RiverHawks
June 16, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
Schaumburg, IL - Despite a furious bottom of the ninth three run rally by the Schaumburg Flyers (7-19), it was not enough as they fell to the Rockford RiverHawks (11-13) 10-4 in front of 2,321 fans at Alexian Field.
The rally started with three consecutive one out singles Joe Nowicki, Travis Brown, and Joey Gomes, these were followed up by a Richard Mercado double up the middle. Scoring three in the inning the Flyers weren't quite able to make up the 9 run deficit they faced coming into the bottom half of the frame.
Pitching was the story tonight for the RiverHawks. Starter Brett Durand (4-1) tossed seven solid innings allowing just one run, which was scored in the bottom of the third when Dylan Parzyk was hit by a pitch and scored on a Travis Brown single two batters later. Durand gave up four hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.
Despite the pitching of Durand, the Rockford hitters weren't to be outdone. The RiverHawks started their scoring quickly with a double by the first hitter of the game Kevin House, who was driven in on a single by David Cooper.
Randall Simon hit his third home run of the series blasting one over the wall in left center . With four runs in the top of the eighth the RiverHawks put the game out of reach for good, with the Flyers not being able to recover.
The loss went to Todd Moser (1-4) who pitched four and two thirds giving up six runs, four of which were earned as well as nine hits and five strikeouts.
The Flyers have an off day tomorrow as they hit the road to Kansas City where they will start a three game set with the T-Bones.
