June 16, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Rockford RiverHawks News Release

Randall Simon of the Rockford RiverHawks (10-13) blasted two home runs Tuesday night in an 8-6 win over the Schaumburg Flyers (7-18). Both teams scored early and often, with the lead changing numerous times, but the final score ended in favor of the RiverHawks.

Rockford got the scoring started in the top of the first when Dave Cooper reached on a Joe Pauley error on a ground ball up the middle and was driven in by a Patrick O'Sullivan single. Schaumburg answered right back in the bottom of the frame with a Travis Brown single, followed by a Richard Mercado RBI double who was ultimately brought in by a Chris Schultz single. Schultz broke out of a recent slump, going four for five and falling just a double short of the cycle.

The scoring continued for both teams in the fourth. Simon started the inning for Rockford with a blast to left. With the Flyers coming back with two runs of their own on a Chris Schultz home run and an Andre Marshall single. The Schaumburg centerfielder was eventually driven home by Tom Fitzgerald on a single up the middle.

In the sixth the RiverHawks saw their sluggers Randall Simon and Patrick O'Sullivan knot back to back home runs to tie the game up at four, and, soon after, Travis Scott singled and scored on an Evan McArthur single, giving the RiverHawks their first lead since the first inning. The Flyers came back and tied the game up at 5-5 with a Chris Schultz triple. The right fielder came around on an Andre Marshall sacrifice fly to deep right.

The Flyers took the lead back in the seventh after a Joey Gomes single followed by a Joe Nowicki Intentional walk and a single by Chris Schultz that drove Gomes home for the lead run off of RiverHawk pitcher Brandon Todd.

But, Rockford took the lead for good in the top of the eighth, when a series of walks and singles drove in three more runs off of Ryan Gehring. The loss went to Gehring (0-2), Adam Rowe (1-0) was the winner, and Scott Roehl picked up the save for the RiverHawks.

The teams will finish off their three game setin Schaumburg at Alexian Field tomorrow.
