
Jackets Open Road Trip with Fifth Straight Win

Kannapolis, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 39-18) opened a seven game road trip on Tuesday night against the Kannapolis Intimidators (31-39, 29-26) with a 10-4 win. Starter T.J. Brewer recorded the win and Thomas Neal's grand-slam in the sixth inning put Augusta up for good.
The GreenJackets trailed 2-1 heading into the sixth inning but plated six runs on six hits for a 7-2 lead. The first three batters in the inning reached beginning with a bunt single from Shane Jordan, Nick Noonan reached on a base hit then Juan Ciriaco reached on an error to load the bases up. Neal came up next and swung at the first pitch he saw for his first grand-slam of the season over the left-field wall for a 5-2 lead.
The GreenJackets added two more runs in the frame on a one-out RBI double from Andrew Davis and a two-out RBI double from James Simmons.
Brewer (9-4) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits over six innings for his third straight win. Brewer also walked two and struck out two.
Kannapolis got two more runs in the seventh inning off reliever Mitch Lively to pull within 7-4. Brent Morel scored on a fielding error and Eduardo Escobar connected for a two-out RBI single. Both runs were unearned on Lively.
Augusta scored three more times in the ninth inning to take a 10-4 lead. Jordan scored on a wild pitch and Angel Villalona had a two-run double with one out in the frame.
David Mixon recorded his fourth save of the season working the final two shutout innings allowing two hits.
Kannapolis took the first lead of the game scoring in the in third inning. Justin Greene was hit by a pitch then on a pick-off attempt moved up to third on a throwing error from Brewer. On the same play with the ball coming back into the infield the throw from Nick Noonan was low into third allowing Greene to score for a 1-0 lead.
The Intimidators made it 2-0 in the fourth inning when Jim Gallagher scored on a wild pitch.
Augusta cut the lead in half in the fifth inning when Baker doubled then scored on a two-out double from Nestor Rojas.
The GreenJackets and Intimidators continue their series on Wednesday with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Odle (9-6, 3.98) to the mound. Kannapolis counters with right-hander Miguel Socolovich (5-6, 4.76). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

The GreenJackets improved to 35-24 on the road this season, 14-11 in the second half
The GreenJackets have a 5.0 game lead in the Southern Division and are now a season high 34 games over the .500 mark.
Augusta has collected 10 or more hits in a season high four straight games.
The GreenJackets have connected for four grand slams in 2008.
