
Captains Drop Final Game Of Road Trip

(Rome, GA) - Cody Johnson had a home run, a triple and drove in four runs as the Rome Braves earned a split in the series against the Lake County Captains winning 9-6 on Monday. The Captains Matt Brown had his fifth straight multi hit game going 2-5 with a RBI and Dustin Realini had three hits and three RBI's. The Captains ended up 15-17 versus the south this year after a very successful road trip going 6-2.
The Captains got to Braves starter Edgar Osuna in the first inning when Mark Thompson led off the game with a double and three batters later scored on a single by Chris Nash to give the Captains an early 1-0 lead. The Braves came right back in the bottom of the first inning when Cody Johnson hit a three run home run off of Captains starter Joey Mahalic and the Braves led 3-1. Johnson's home run was his 23rd of the year which sets a new single season record for the Braves.
The Braves tacked on three unearned runs in the fourth inning when a run scored on a ground out by Michael Fisher and two more came home on an infield single by David Berres and the Braves lead went to 6-1. The Captains stormed back in the top of the fifth inning scoring four times when Realini knocked in two runs and Brown and Chris Nash added RBIs and the Captains trailed 6-5.
The Braves added two more runs in the fifth inning on a RBI triple by Johnson and a RBI single by Chad Lundahl and the lead was up to 8-5. The Braves added a run in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 9-5. Realini added his third RBI in the ninth inning to end the scoring a 9-6.
Mahalic saw his record fall to 7-5 hurling 4.1 innings and allowing eight runs, five earned on eight hits, walking two and striking out two. Osuna upped his record to 9-4 with the win.
The Captains return home on Wednesday to wrap up the regular season portion of the home schedule as they host the Lakewood BlueClaws and the Hagerstown Suns. Game one of the five game series with Lakewood will feature the Captains RHP Chris Archer (4-8, 4.38) going to the mound to face the BlueClaws RHP Vance Worley (2-1, 2.40). Game time is 7:05 PM. Wednesday is WIN BIG WEDNESDAY at Classic Park! The Captains will give away $1,000 in cash and prizes! Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
