Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC: The GreenJackets (23-24) could not stop the Rome Braves (24-24) offense on Friday night, and the Jackets dropped three-of-four with Rome. It was a five-run 5th inning that put things out of reach for the Jackets.
GreenJackets starter Jesus Ozoria worked out of trouble in the 1st inning. After he allowed a leadoff double on the first pitch he threw, he came back and struck out the next three he faced to keep Rome off the board. In the bottom of the 1st, Mikey Edie grounded out to score Ismael Munguia from 1st base, and the Jackets took a 1-0 lead.
Rome answered off Ozoria in the 2nd inning. Henry Quintero's RBI double down the left field line tied the score, as he brought home Griffin Benson from 1st base. Rome scored again in the 4th inning when Derian Cruz doubled to score Logan Brown. It gave the Braves a 2-1 advantage.
The GreenJackets responded with a run in the 4th inning. An error on the shortstop Carlos Paraguate, as he looked to begin an inning-ending double play, he threw the ball into the outfield and the Jackets evened the score at two.
Jesus Ozoria allowed a home run off the bat of Greg Cullen in the 5th inning, and Rome took back the lead at 3-2. The 6th inning proved to be the difference on Friday night. Rome scored five runs all with two outs.
In the 7th inning, Rome tacked on another run on a RBI triple for Derian Cruz, and the Braves extended their lead to 9-2. The Jackets picked-up a run in the 7th inning. Diego Rincones tripled and the Jackets trailed 9-3. They added a run in the 9th on an RBI single from Tostado, but were unable to come back as they fell in the finale 9-4.
Player of the Game: Jesus Tona, 3 IP, 0 ER, 5 K
Despite a big 2-5 game from Mikey Edie at the plate, Jesus Tona is the player of the game. Tona lowers his ERA to 1.14 after his three innings of scoreless ball out of the Jackets bullpen.

The GreenJackets will open-up a series with the Greenville Drive, and they'll kick it off with a doubleheader. In the 1st game, the Jackets will send Keaton Winn to the mound. Winn is coming off an outing at Charleston where he allowed three runs over six innings on the bump. The right-hander has been around the strike zone all season, as he has allowed just six walks while striking-out 27 batters. Winn was a 5th round selection in 2018 out of Iowa Western Community College. The Giants also drafted him in the 20th round in 2017, but he decided to go back to school for one more year. The GreenJackets have not made an announcement on who will start the 2nd game of the doubleheader yet.
The Greenville Drive will send out right-handers in both games. In the first matchup. Thaddeus Ward will get the baseball. Ward this year has gone 50.1 innings on the mound and has gone seven innings in each of his last two starts without allowing a run. He was a 5th round pick in 2018 by the Red Sox out of the University of Central Florida. In the 2nd game, Greenville will have Hunter Haworth make the start. He faced the Jackets back on April 10th and went only 4 innings while allowing seven runs. Haworth was selected by the Red Sox in the 22nd round in 2017 out of Chico State University.
