New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - After losing two of the first three games of this four-game set to the Rockland Boulders in Pomona, NY, a homecoming was just what the doctor ordered. The Jackals won 6-4 in the finale in Little Falls on a steamy Friday night.
The Boulders led the entire game until an eighth inning, four-run rally by the home team. The Jackals connected on five straight base hits, including Francisco Carraballo's game-winning RBI single. Nick Giarraputo, now the Can-Am's sole leader in RBIs, followed up with an RBI double.
Carraballo was 3-4, his fourth three-hit game in his last eight.
A four-run outburst paced the Boulders in the top of the second inning. Ryan Scoma started off the scoring with a two-run homer, his sixth of the season. The Boulders followed up with two walks and two singles to extend their lead to four.
The Jackals responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own. Caraballo continued his hot-hitting with a lead-off double. The Can-Am's June Player of the Month Giarraputo followed up with an RBI single. The Jackals third baseman would score on an RBI groundout by Chris Henderson later in the inning.
Getting the start for the Jackals was lefty Craig Clark. He went six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five. He had earned a decision in each of his previous six appearances prior to today's game. He gets the no-decision today.
Zach Woods earns the win for the Jackals after striking out the only batter he faced. He moves to 2-1 on the season.
Keith Cantwell came on in the ninth to earn the save, his sixth of the season.
Boulders starter Pat Moran went seven-and-a-third innings for the Boulders earning the no-decision. He allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out four on only 82 pitches. Moran remains among the top five in the Can-Am League in strikeouts and ERA.
Garrett Johnson came on in relief for Moran in the bottom of the eighth, allowing two runs on three hits. He suffers the loss and moves to 1-1 on the season.
The win moves the Jackals to 26-20 on the season, although they remain seven games behind the first-place Quebec Capitales. The Boulders fall to 20-25 and remain in third in the Can-Am standings.
With the win, the Jackals avoid losing the series to the Boulders. This would have been their first series loss to the Rockland in over a year.
Tomorrow, the Jackals will continue their home-stand when the Newark Bears come to town. Isaac Pavlik, recently crowned the Jackals' all-time wins leader, will be on the hill and looking to earn his sixth win of the season. Brian Parker starts for the visiting Bears. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
