Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today they have completed a trade with the Rockford Icehogs for right wing Vince Malts in exchange for future considerations.
Malts, a 6'3", 225 lbs right wing comes to the Jackals having played all of last season and two of the first three games of this season for Rockford. In 79 regular season games for the Icehogs in 2004-05, Malts had 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points and racked up 214 penalty minutes. In 7 playoff games for Rockford, he had 18 PIMs as the Icehogs beat Kalamazoo, then lost to Fort Wayne in the second round (Colonial Cup Semifinals). So far this season Malts has 4 PIMs in 2 games played.
"Vince gives us added size and toughness on the right wing," said Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "He is not a one dimensional player and that is every important this year. He gets around the ice very well and he is sure to complement some of our younger forwards quite nicely."
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native was drafted in the 7th round (177th overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Currently in his 7th year as a professional, Malts has spent most of his time in the ECHL. In 321 career games played the 26-year old has 142 points (57 goals, 85 assists) and has 977 penalty minutes, just 23 minutes shy of the 1,000 PIMs milestone.
The Jackals are in Danbury Friday, October 28th for their first clash of the year with the Trashers at 7:30 pm.
