Jackals top Pioneers in exhibition game

Little Falls, NJ – In their first exhibition game of the 2004 season, the New Jersey Jackals brought a little bit of everything to the plate, as they prevailed over their South Division rival Elmira Pioneers by a score of 8-3.

New Jersey got off to a hot start in the first inning, as the first fours batters recorded hits, and the first three came around to score. The Jackals added a run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, and tallied two more in the bottom of the seventh.

Leading the charge for the Jackals, in his debut, was center fielder Wady Almonte. Almonte was 2-2 with a homerun, a double, 3 RBI's, and 3 runs scored. Leadoff batter John Anderson carried over his hitting prowess from the previous season, while going 3-5 with 1 RBI, and 1 run scored.

Aaron Myers got the win for New Jersey, while pitching 3 strong innings and fanning six. Juan Guzman worked 2 perfect innings of work, and struck out 3 in the process. In total, the Jackals' pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts against Elmira.
