Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have traded defenseman Jason Jaworski to the Quad City Mallards for defenseman Florian Iberer and future considerations.

Florian Iberer (pronounced E-ber-er), played in 10 games for Quad City this season, scoring 3 assists and 7 minutes of penalties. He has played 5 years and 229 games of professional hockey, all for Graz EC in the Austrian Elite League. In his European career, Iberer has four goals and 20 assists for 24 points. The 22-year old played for Team Austria in the 2002 World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic.

"Florian will provide our blue line with a smart and simple game," said Jackals Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "His stats won't jump off the score sheet but his play will help to solidify our defense. He has played in the Elite League in Austria since he was 18 years old and that experience alone should make us better. As for Jason, this will be a good chance for Jaws to be closer to his wife, who took a job this year just a short drive from Quad Cities."

The 27-year old Jaworski was acquired by Elmira from the Adirondack Frostbite on February 8th, 2005 in a trade for forward Greg Koehler. He played 26 games at the end of the 2004-05 season, scoring 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists) and 2 PIMs. In 10 games for the Jackals this season Jaworski has 3 points (2 goals and 1 assist) and 6 penalty minutes.

Iberer is scheduled to arrive in Elmira Wednesday night and should be on the ice for the Jackals practice Thursday at the First Arena.

The Jackals hit the road for 4 games in 6 days, beginning Friday in Danbury. Saturday and Sunday they will be in Richmond and Wednesday the 23rd they are in Roanoke. Elmira will return home on Friday November 25th to take on the Roanoke Valley Vipers at 7:00 pm at the First Arena.
