Jackals Set Several Team and League Records in Sweep of Allentown

LITTLE FALLS, NJ-The defending Northern League champion New Jersey Jackals assaulted the franchise and league record books this week during their four-game sweep over the Allentown Ambassadors. The Jackals won all four games by an aggregate score of 66-22, winning by the scores of 16-2, 9-6, 16-4 and 25-10. New Jersey collected 82 hits in the four-game sweep over Allentown.

On Monday night August the 12th New Jersey shortstop Chas Terni clubbed three home runs to tie the Jackals' franchise record and the Northern League record for most homers in a game. Terni finished the night 5-6 with the 3 home runs and 5 RBI.

Also on Monday former major league right-hander Joel Bennett earned his 12th win of the season, establishing a new single-season team record. Bennett struck out 6 batters in the game, giving him 121 on the season to set another new team mark.

In Wednesday night's 16-4 victory, the Jackals established a new franchise record by collecting 28 hits. Left-fielder Billy Brown led the way going 6-6 at the plate, tying the league record for most hits in a game, while setting the team record for the same category. The same night Terni stroked three doubles, equaling the single-game high-water mark for both the team and the league.

On Thursday the 15th of August New Jersey established a new franchise high by scoring 25 runs. Terni set a new league and team record by scoring 6 of those runs. Right-fielder Travis Bailey drove in 6 runs, tying the team mark for most RBI in a single game. Bailey also smacked a grand slam home run, his second of the season and New Jersey's fifth of the 2002 campaign. Center-fielder Billy Rich became the second player in franchise history, and the first since July of 2000, to hit for the cycle. Rich finished the night 4-7 with a home run, 5 RBI and 5 runs scored. New Jersey also established a new franchise high by collecting 13 extra-base hits (5 doubles, 4 triples and 4 home runs).
