Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that they have made their first training camp roster cuts while acquiring two more bodies in preparation for the 2007-2008 ECHL season. The Jackals signed forwards Bobby Robins and Martin Sagat to professional tryout agreements while forwards Stian Hoygard, Joe Guenther, Chris Ferazzoli and Anthony Becker were released.

Robins, 25, comes to Elmira after appearing in all 80 games last year with the Binghamton Senators (AHL). The 6'1", 220-pound right winger notched seven goals and 15 points with the Senators while picking up 110 penalty minutes. Robins was released prior to Binghamton's season opener Saturday against Albany (3-1 loss), having appeared in 97 consecutive contests with the Senators after completing a four-year collegiate career at UMass-Lowell. He posted a career-best 31 points in 35 games in his senior season with the Riverhawks in 2005-06.

Sagat, a 22-year old Slovakian native, appeared in 131 games with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) over the past two seasons. A former 3rd round NHL draft pick (91st overall, 2003 NHL Entry Draft) by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the left winger had 17 goals and 36 points in his Marlies' career. Sagat, along with Robins, had been in camp with the Ottawa (NHL) and Binghamton (AHL) Senators before joining the Jackals.

Among those in the first round of cuts, Ferazzoli and Becker were in camp after securing an invitation from the Jackals Pro Placement Tryout Camp held in mid-September at First Arena. The camp gave amateur hopefuls an opportunity for exposure to scouts and the chance to participate in the Jackals ECHL training camp. Ferazzoli and Becker were two of four players that were invited while the other two, forwards Andre Chamberlain and Janis Purins, elected not to participate in the Jackals ECHL training camp.

Elmira opens its first ECHL preseason with three games this week at First Arena: Thursday, October 11th, against Reading (7:05 p.m.), Friday, October 12th, and Saturday, October 13th, versus Trenton at 7:35 p.m. both nights. Tickets are on sale now at the Arena box office (Gray Street), by calling 734-PUCK and on-line at www.ticektmaster.com.
