Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey Leaguefs Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey Leaguefs Springfield Falcons, has announced rookie defenseman Theo Peckham and rookie center Geoff Paukovich have been assigned to the Thunder from Springfield.

gGeoff and Theo are two big and rugged Oiler prospects that we are excited to have here in Stockton,h said Cichocki. gTheo will bring a physical presence to our defensive corps while establishing himself as a solid, steady defenseman. Geoff is a big and hard-working forward with a great work ethic. I am expecting him to create a lot of havoc in front of the net, on our power-play, similar to what Troy Bodie did for the Thunder last year.h

Peckham, 19, was selected in the third round (75th overall) by Oilers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and previously played three years (2004-07) of his junior career with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League, tallying 618 penalty minutes in 181 career games along with 60 points (17g-43a).

The 6-foot-2, 216-pound defenseman led Owen Sound in penalty minutes all three seasons, ranking second in the OHL with 236 PIMfs in 2005-06. Managing a decline of 63 penalty minutes last year, Peckham however shattered his previous career scoring-highs with 35 points (10g-25a) in 53 games for the Attack before joining the Oilers in NHL training camp this year.

Paukovich, 21, was selected in the second round (57th overall) by Oilers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and previously played three years (2004-07) of his college career with national-power University of Denver (NCAA), teaming with current Thunder teammates Luke Fulghum (RW) and Glenn Fisher (G) to help guide the Pioneers to an NCAA Frozen Four national championship in his 2004-05 freshman year.

Weighing at 6-foot-4 and 215-pounds, Paukovich participated in NHL training camp with the Oilers this year and scored 48 points (24g-24a) and tallied 253 penalty minutes in 115 career games with Denver, registering career highs in goals (12), points (21) and penalty minutes (116) in 2004-05.

The Thunder has also announced the following player has been released and is deemed an unrestricted free agent:

œ Steve Preite (RW)
