New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals snapped a four game losing streak, and ended New Haven's six game winning streak, while splitting a double header at Yale Field. The Jackals are now two games out in the South Division with four to play.
New Haven took a 1-0 lead over the Jackals in the bottom of the fourth on a Chas Terni RBI triple.
The Jackals then battled back in the top of the fifth, plating two runs. Chris Rowan notched an RBI double and Ricardo Cordova drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly.
The Cutters broke the ballgame open in the bottom half of the innings, scoring four. Mike O'Keefe, Derrick Gibson and Jeff Brooks all drove in runs.
New Jersey made the ballgame it a one run ballgame by scoring two in the top of the sixth, cutting the New Haven lead to 5-4. But the Cutters, added a valuable insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a Mike Larosa sacrifice fly.
In the top of the seventh, the Jackals put together a valiant comeback that fell short. They made it a one run ballgame on a Darren Ciraco sacrifice fly, but reliever Mark Comolli would settle down and retire the next batter to end the ballgame. The Jackals left runners at first and second in the inning.
Courtney Hall got the win in 5.2 innings of work. He scattered nine hits while giving up four runs, three of them being earned, and fanning five. Aaron Myers was the loser in five innings. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits while striking out only one batter.
In game two, New Jersey broke out for four runs in the top of the third. John Lindsey had a two RBI double, and Joe Jiannetti blasted a two run homerun to left.
In the fifth, New Haven slashed the Jackal lead in half when Jeff Brooks ripped a homerun to left field, making the score 4-2, still in favor of the Jackals.
In the bottom of the sixth, Chris Rowan hit a two run homerun, making it 6-2 Jackals, and that's the way the ballgame would end.
Joel Bennett earned the victory in a complete game, seven inning effort, while giving up two runs on three hits, while fanning seven Cutters. Brad Whitworth suffered the loss allowing five runs, only one earned, while giving up seven hits, and striking out five.
