Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON - The Brockton Rox (19-23) were swept by the North Shore Spirit (25-17) in a doubleheader by scores of 4-3 and 10-1.
In the opener, the Spirit scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Alex Trezza, Jose Garcia, and Eric Storey strung together consecutive RBI hits to give the Spirit the early, 3-0 lead.
The Rox got a run back in each of the first two innings, as the returning Matt Cucurullo reached and scored twice for the Rox to make it, 3-2.
The Spirit added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Brian Macchi scored on Storey's sacrfice fly. The insurance run would prove to be valuable as the Rox managed one run in the bottom of the seventh, but fell, 4-3.
Keven Beavers (1-3) picked up the loss in game one for the Rox. John Kelly (6-2) got the win for the Spirit and Ryan McCally picked up his seventh save of the season.
The nightcap saw the Spirit put on a power display. Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd pitched six innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits. Boyd (1-2) picked up his second loss of the year. Ryan Bicondoa (4-3) pitched a complete game in picking up the win.
Vic Davilla led the way for the Spirit with two home runs and five RBI. Alex Trezza also went long, hitting his seventh home run of the season. For the Rox, Guye Senjem hit his eighth home run of the year.
The Rox and Spirit will wrap up their series on Sunday with a Family FUNday game starting at 6:05 p.m. Mike Henry (2-2, 6.39) will start for the Rox against the Spirit's Jake Mullis (2-2, 5.82).
