
Jackals pound Aces

Little Falls, NJ- The Jackals bombarded the Aces with 14 hits, leading to a 7-1 victory.
The Jackals opened up the ballgame with two runs in the top of the first. Chris Rowan roped a one out triple, which was followed by an RBI ground out by Kevin Grijak. Consecutive doubles by 2004 All-Stars Wilton Veras and Wady Almonte, added another run to the New Jersey total.
Rowan's sixth homerun of the season put two more on the scoreboard for the Jackals. Through three innings, New Jersey held a 4-0 lead.
In the seventh, Veras doubled with the bases loaded, clearing the bases. The extra base hit put the Jackals ahead for good, 7-0.
The Aces picked up a run in the bottom of the ninth, on an RBI double by Greg Schmidt.
Aces' starter Trevor Marcotte only got through four innings of the ballgame. He gave up four earned runs, on nine hits, while getting the loss.
Josh Miller pitched seven shutout innings, while scattering seven hits, and striking out six. It was Miller's third win of the season.
For the Jackals, Chris Rowan was 3-5 with a two-run homerun, a triple, a double, and three runs scored. Wilton Veras was 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Zack Smithlin also reached base four times, on three singles and a walk.
Yohanny Valera, for the Aces, was 2-4 with two doubles.
The New Jersey Jackals and the Northeast League Aces play game two of their four game series on Friday, July 9, 2004.
