
Cutters Acquire New Faces For First Half Strecth Run

(West Haven, CT- July 8, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters today have traded Starter Orlando Encarnacion to the Brockton Rox for Outfielder Aaron Fera and have signed one-time Seattle Mariners pitcher Greg McCarthy.
Fera was batting .259 with 16 runs scored and 14 RBI in 37 games this season with Brockton. The 6'2" outfielder had multi-hit games in nine of his first 17 games this season. Encarnacion was 2-4 with a 4.25 ERA, 21 strikeouts and 23 walks.
The 26-year old outfielder is being reacquainted with Jarvis Brown, who he played for last season while a member of the St. Paul Saints. Fera's best season came with the New Jersey Jackals back in 2001 when he set career high's in batting average (.355), Homeruns (18) and RBI (54) in 58 games played.
Fera, entering this season, is a .260 hitter with 53 homers, 90 doubles, 218 RBI and 192 runs scored in his five year's of professional baseball.
Former Mariners relief pitcher Greg McCarthy was signed today. Prior to signing with New Haven, McCarthy played with the Atlantic City Surf where he made 12 appearances with a 1-0 record and recorded a save. Since May 20th, the Norwalk, CT, native has made eight appearances without allowing an earned run.
The 35-year old has a career big league record of 2-3 with a 4.74 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 76 appearances. McCarthy has a 44-36 record with a 3.67 ERA with 776 strikeouts in 497 career minor league games.
To make room on the roster for McCarthy, the Cutters released infielder Carlos Dominguez. Dominguez batted .235 in 12 games this season.
