IN JUST A FEW HOURS...
The Elmira Jackals will kick off their run toward the 2012 Kelly Cup as they battle their Atlantic Division rivals, the Reading Royals, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the Sovereign Center at 7:05 p.m. The Jackals are the top seed in the Eastern Conference, going 45-22-2-3 during the regular season to earn 95 points, the second-most in the ECHL in 2011-2012. The Royals clinched a playoff spot on the final day of the regular season and are the eighth and final seed in the conference, posting a 36-28-4-4 record in the campaign.
PREVIEWING THE MATCH-UP
The Jackals went 11-3-2-0 against the Royals during the regular season, with a 5-2-0-0 record at home and a 6-1-2-0 mark at the Sovereign Center. Elmira earned nine comeback wins against Reading in 2011-2012, including six in which the Jackals trailed by two goals. The Jackals and the Royals met in the first round of the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs, with Reading prevailing over Elmira, four games to two, in the North Division Semifinals. Elmira and Reading played 66 times in the regular season over the past five years, with the Jackals winning 36 of those contests.
JACKALS LOOK TO SHAKE PLAYOFF WOES
Elmira has won only one playoff series since joining the ECHL, taking the North Division Semifinals against the Trenton Devils in the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Jackals, who have never won a game past the first round in ECHL competition, have a 9-17 record all-time in Kelly Cup Playoff action. Tonight marks Elmira's first playoff game since Apr. 9, 2011, when the eighth-seeded Jackals fell to the top-seeded Greenville Road Warriors in double overtime of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, 2-1, ending the club's fourth season in the ECHL.
PLAYOFF BROADCAST INFORMATION
Elmira's playoff radio broadcasts can be heard on 99.5 WOKN FM in the Elmira area and on 102.5 FM in Corning, as the Jackals and the Pembrook Pines Media Group work to bring you up-to-date coverage of the team's run toward the 2012 Kelly Cup. The broadcasts will begin 15 minutes prior to the start of the game with the Hilltop Inn Countdown to Face-off. They are also streamed free-of-charge on 995WOKNElmira.com.
