Jackals pen canâ??t hold down surge by Boulders

Little Falls, NJ - For six innings it looked like the Jackals were well on their way to taking their second straight game against the Rockland Boulders and move into first place at the same time. However, for the second time this year Rockland rallied for an eight-run seventh inning to stun the Jackals, stealing the game 10-4.
The Jackals built a 3-2 lead behind John Walter who looked great over six and a third innings pitched. Walter dominated the Boulders, striking out eight batters on the day, and allowing only one hit after the first inning.
After Rockland took an early 1-0, the Jackals tied it immediately on a RBI single by Mark Threlkeld in the bottom of the first inning. Two innings later, the Jackals were right back at it against Alex Gouin. A two-out RBI double by Leandro Castro, brought A.J. Kirby Jones in from second to give the Jackals a 2-1 lead. Then, Matt Helms reached on an error by Gouin, who dropped the baseball while covering first, which allowed Castro to score to make it 3-1 Jackals.
By the seventh inning everything changed. Donnie Joseph came in for Walter with a man on and one out, and couldn't get out of the inning. An error at third by Mark Threlkeld on a ground ball by Giuseppe Papaccio started Rockland's momentum.
Soon Jared McDonald was hit by a pitch and Junior Arrojo walked to drive in the tying run. Stephen Cardullo put the Boulders in front, 4-3 with a RBI single, scoring Papaccio. Maloney would follow with a bases clearing double to catapult the Boulders to a 7-3 lead.
Overall Rockland scored eight runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-3 lead. It was the second time Rockland did that to New Jersey, they scored eight runs in the seventh inning against the Jackals back on July 18.
While the loss hurt, the Jackals can make up for it tomorrow night with Brian Ernst on the hill. Ernst has 31 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run. He will face Richard Salazar, a rematch of a previous matchup from July 17.
