New Jersey Jackals News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ—The New Jersey Jackals today announced the re-signing of two players from their championship-winning squad of a year ago as outfielder Travis Bailey and second baseman Craig Conway both agreed to new deals.

"I think these signings are great for our team and for our fans," said Jackals' manager Joe Calfapietra. "We're keeping a sense of continuity from the team that won the league championship last season. Not only that, both of these players are difficult outs in our lineup and are quality ballplayers."

The 26 year-old Bailey was a strong candidate for the league MVP award last season as he batted .321 with 16 home runs, 24 doubles, 6 triples, 75 RBI and 75 runs scored. Bailey led the league in runs scored and extra-base hits (46), tied for the lead in RBI, ranked 3rd in home runs, tied for 3rd in triples and tied for 6th in batting average.

Last season Bailey, a former St. Louis Cardinals draft choice, played in the 2002 Northern League All Star Game and won the Home Run Derby before the game. He also batted .315 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI in the post season.

The 23 year-old Conway will be entering his third season of professional baseball in 2003, all with the Jackals. The homegrown infielder, who resides in Bloomfield, NJ, starred previously at Montclair State University.

A backup player on the Jackals' 2001 title-winning team, Conway emerged last season as a starter on yet another championship club. Conway batted .298 with 2 home runs, 10 doubles and 30 RBI in 73 games played. In the post-season he batted a team-high .362 with 1 home run, 3 doubles and 9 RBI.

The Jackals' quest for a third-straight championship begins on May 22nd when the 2003 season gets underway against the Berkshire Black Bears at Yogi Berra Stadium. Fans interested in ticket information can log on to www.jackals.com or call (973) 746-7434.
