Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have added RHP John Vigue (pronounced vig-U) to the pitching staff the Northeast League Club announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vigue was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2001 and pitched last season for the Rays' Single-A affiliate in Charleston, SC. The Seminole, FL resident went 6-2 with a 3.49 ERA in 67.0 innings pitched out of the River Dogs bullpen. Vigue also collected two saves, while striking out 45.

"John is a proven pro out of the pen, but I would like to see him step up into the rotation," Lumberjacks Manager Kash Beauchamp stated. "We're going to bring him in and give him a shot at starting."

Vigue is the second pitcher the Jacks have acquired this week. Bangor picked up LHP Donny Thomas from Elmira on Monday.

The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond.
