New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ-The Northern League announced today that New Jersey Jackals' catcher Mikaela Dworken and pitcher Aaron Myers both have been suspended one game for their part in an on-field fight that took place during Wednesday's game vs. the Brockton Rox. Both players will sit out this evening's game vs. Les Capitales de Quebec.
The incident took place after Myers threw out Brockton catcher Melvin Rosario at first base for the final out of the game. As he ran past first base, Rosario threw a punch at Jackals' first baseman Dave Callahan. Both benches and bullpens emptied and an altercation took place. For their parts in the incident, Rosario was suspended 8 games, Rox pitcher Mike Marchessano was suspended 3 games and Rox reliever John Hassel was suspended 1 game.
"It was the cheapest shot I've seen in my 14 years in professional baseball," said Jackals' manager George Tsamis of Rosario's actions. "It was uncalled for. There is no place for this in baseball." Tsamis added that the suspensions to his two players were "fair" and that the "league handled the situation in the appropriate manner."
The Jackals and Rox will play a three-game series next week, beginning on Tuesday evening, at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA.
