New Jersey Jackals News Release

Pittsfield, Mass. - In a game that featured 34 hits and a 28-minute lighting delay, the Pittsfield Colonials doubled up the New Jersey Jackals 14-7 on Wednesday night in front of 362 fans at Wahconah Park.

In the rubber game of the three-game series, Pittsfield opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Daniel Carte sliced a leadoff triple to right center before scoring on a sacrifice fly by the next batter, Angel Molina, to make it 1-0. However, the Jackals retaliated in the top of the third inning when Mike DeJesus launched a two-run homer to right and Travis Jones followed with an RBI single to give New Jersey a 3-1 advantage.

After Pittsfield plated the game's next three runs, the Jackals evened the score at 4-4 in the top of the fifth when Carlos Sosa singled and advanced to third on a Travis Jones hit-and-run single before scoring on an Angel Flores bunt. Pittsfield would regain the lead for good on a fifth-inning double by Molina.

Neither starter made it out of the fifth inning, with New Jersey's Jayson Miller surrendering five runs (four earned) on 10 hits over 4.2 innings while Pittsfield hurler Patrick Moran yielded four runs on 11 hits over 4.1 frames. Miller (2-4) took the loss with Colonials reliever Pat Bresnahan (2-2) earning the win in relief.

Trailing 9-6, New Jersey brought the tying run up to bat with two outs in the top of the eighth, but Pittsfield closer Juan Padilla entered and retired Carlos Sosa, who flew out to the warning track for the second time in the contest to end the threat. Pittsfield tacked on five runs in the bottom of the eighth against Jackals closer Romas Hicks before New Jersey designated hitter Jacob Butler capped the scoring with a leadoff homer, tying Jabe Bergeron for the team lead with 16. Padilla recorded the game's final four outs and was credited with his 10th save of the season.

Shortstop Matt Nandin led the Colonials offense charge, driving in five runs behind a 3-for-6 effort at the plate. For New Jersey, Abraham Nunez, Butler, and Jones each collected three hits.

The Jackals (16-19 second half, 35-46 overall) return to Yogi Berra Stadium to begin their final homestand of the season when they take on the Quebec Capitales on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. In the opener of the four-game series, New Jersey will send southpaw Isaac Pavlik to the mound against Quebec right-hander Dan Sausville.
