New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ -After a incredible top of the first inning that saw New Jersey chalk up two runs on a lead-off homer by Bryan Sabatella and an RBI single by Jeremy Barnes, the Jackals struggled to hold the lead, dropping the finale of their three game series in Sioux City, Iowa by a score of 12-4.

The Explorers gave the Jackals plenty of fits all night with 12 runs on 15 hits.

With New Jersey leading 2-0, the Explorers erased that lead when Peter Barrows hit a two-run homer in the bottom half of the first.

The Jackals did rebound to retake the lead. New Jersey initially tied the game at three after Bryan Sabtella singled, stole a base, and scored on another RBI hit by Barnes in the third inning.

New Jersey took the lead in the fourth on Kyle Nisson's Fielder's Choice to drive in Nick Giarraputo.

But, the Jackals couldn't hold the lead for long.

A home run by Sam Judah, in the bottom of the fifth, tied the game at four, before the game got away from starter Klye Greenwalt.

Singles by Barrows and Bryan Pounds, and a walk to Palmer Karr was quickly followed by RBI hits from Leugim Barroso, and Adrian Martinez to make it 6-4 Explorers.

Sioux City put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the sixth. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Judah and Barrows gave Sioux City an 8-4 lead. Barroso and Martinez followed once again with RBI singles to make it 10-4.

Greenwalt, who looked to be settling in after a good third and fourth inning, lasted only five innings, surrendering six runs, four earned, on nine hits; he's 0-2 on the season.

The Jackals (3-4) did take two of three from the Explorers a series that was very productive from an offensive standpoint as the Jackals pounded out 26 runs on 45 hits.

Jeremy Barnes went 5-for-12 in the series with six RBI and a homer, while Kyle Nisson went 6-for-11 with four RBI in the series. Yazy Arbelo and Jose Cuevas also hit in each game of the series; Arbelo has a seven game hit streak, while Cuevas has a six game hit streak.

Craig Heyer (0-1) will take the ball in Game 1 against Wichita, Thursday night. The Game will be heard live on Jackals.com beginning at 7:50 with Michael Cohen and the Jackals Pregame show.
