New Jersey Jackals News Release

Anchored by an eight-run fifth inning, the New Jersey Jackals (10-13) defeated the Dominican Republic National Team (0-4) by a score of 19-2 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday.

It was an offensive show for the Jackals as they scored a season high 19 runs on 20 hits in the rout. Six Jackals notched a multi-hit game as the team cruised to victory.

Designated hitter Danny Canela led the way offensively, going 4-for-6 on the day with five RBIs. Canela launched his second home run of the year in the fifth inning. Just two pitches later, Nolan Meadows added a solo shot to right field as the Jackals went back-to-back to cap off an eight-run frame.

Carlos Triunfel, David Harris, and Gerald Bautista attributed three RBIs each, as they paced the offensive effort. Bautista put an exclamation point on the night with a no-doubt home run that was blasted way over the left field fence in the eighth inning.

Seth Spivey boosted the on-base percentage to .417 after reaching every single plate appearance. Spivey finished the night with two hits and four walks in his six plate appearances.

Starting pitcher Yasmani Hernandez continued to impress on the mound for New Jersey. Hernandez (2-1, 2.65 ERA) picked up his second victory on the season after going seven strong innings while only surrendering one run on three hits. Hernandez also fanned a season high ten Dominican Republic hitters en route to his win.

Hernandez continues to be a key piece in Brooks Carey's rotation. In his last 14.1 innings, he has only yielded one run and six hits.

The only sour note in tonight's game for the Jackals was leadoff hitter and left fielder Connor Hofmann left the game early in the top of the fifth inning. Hofmann was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third, catching his lead foot. He remained in the game after receiving treatment from the trainer and would later go on to steal a base. There is no word yet on his condition.

The three game series against the Dominican Republic continues at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
