New Jersey Jackals News Release
On Saturday night the New Jersey Jackals defeated the Quebéc Capitales by a score of 9-4, taking game 3 of a 4 game series.
Québec starter Karl Gélinas looked sharp out of the gate after a 1-2-3 first inning. Trouble came in the 4th when an Alfredo Marte single scored Jason Agresti, who reached base with a single earlier that inning. Conrad Gregor's sacrifice fly made it 2-0 and that capped the scoring for the Jackals that inning, leaving Marte stranded at third. Gélinas' night would come to an end after 4; he totaled 4 innings while allowing 6 runs (5 ER) on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3.
Nate Antone didn't fare much better; he allowed 2 runs and 4 hits over 2.1 innings. Chase Smartt, Jason Agresti, and Nelson Ward each had RBI singles in the 7th to extend New Jersey's lead. Québec tacked on 2 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 8th but the Jackal lead was too much to overcome.
Eduard Reyes, fresh off of his 2019 All-Star Game appearance, was painting the corners for the Jackals. Reyes pitched 6 strong frames while giving up 2 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings. Reese Karalus gave up a pair in his second inning of work after a T.J White single and a Corey Bass sacrifice fly allowed Québec to score twice. 5 Jackals had multi-hit games and Alfredo Marte, who is batting .444 over his last 10 games, drove in a game-high 3 runs for the Jackals. Marte was last week's CAN-AM League player of the week.
Eduard Reyes cruised to his 6th win on the season and now sits at (6-1). The losing pitcher was Karl Gélinas whose record falls to (1-4). The Jackals look to even the series in the finale Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm.
