New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, NJ-New Jersey Jackals pitcher Joel Bennett has been named as the starting pitcher for the East squad in the 2002 Northern League All Star Game, it was announced today by East manager George Tsamis, who is also Bennett's skipper in New Jersey. The game will take place Tuesday night in Quebec City.
The 32 year-old former major league right-hander is 11-1 in 14 starts this season with a 2.66 ERA. He leads the Northern League East in wins, complete games (5) and strikeouts (115). His ERA is the 6th lowest in the league.
"Quite simply, Joel Bennett is the best pitcher in this league," said Tsamis. "In fact, I would argue that he is the most valuable player in this league, too. He deserves the honor of being the starting pitcher in the All Star Game."
Bennett represented the Jackals in the 2001 Northern League All Star Game, as well. The twelve-year veteran has amassed 95 wins and only 67 losses at the minor league level in his career. The former Phillies and Orioles righty has a lifetime mark of 2-1 in 7 major league games.
