Jackals And Airhogs Suspended After 16th; Resume Tomorrow
June 22, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
In a back-and-forth matchup against the American Association's Grand Prairie AirHogs, they just wanna keep on playin', but league rules say it's time to go to sleep.
The two teams have played to an 8-8 tie after 15 innings, and due to league rules that forbid a new inning after midnight, we will pick this game up tomorrow at 4:30.
Even after the AirHogs' David Thomas triple scored two in the 13th, a Jackals' two-out rally matched it, topped off by a Bryan Sabatella two-out, bases-loaded single.
When we return tomorrow, the AirHogs will send up 8-9-1. Jake Hale threw the final three innings today, and is eligible to "start." The same goes for the AirHogs' Jakob Cunningham.
The Jackals will send up their 3-4-5 hitters in the bottom of the 16th.
Kyle Greenwalt started on the mound for the Jackals, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four over six innings. He will not earn a decision, as his record will stand at 2-1.
Dustin Birosak also came on in relief and was fantastic, shutting out the AirHogs, allowing one hit over a season-high four innings. Zach Woods also pitched a scoreless frame before Jake Hale came on to pitch the 12th through 15th innings.
AirHogs' right-hander Lance Day made his second career start, going five-plus innings. He struck out four without walking a batter. He will remain 1-0 this season.
Coming in relief in the 12th inning for the AirHogs was listed outfield Kenny Held. Making his first professional pitching appearance, he didn't allow a run on just one hit.
The AirHogs took full advantage of the smaller dimensions of Yogi Berra Stadium, blasting three homers en route to their six runs on the day. Chris McMurray launched two solo shots, one in the fourth and one in the eighth. Trent Lockwood added a two-run shot in the second. McMurray's second home run tied the game and forced extra innings.
This game will be picked up tomorrow at 4:40. The two teams will resume this game tomorrow prior to the 6:35 PM game. In tomorrow's scheduled game, Steve Fox (5-0, 1.91 ERA) is slated to take the hill for the Jackals while Josh Strawn (3-0, 3.82 ERA) will start for the AirHogs.
