Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - The struggles at home continued last week for the Odessa Jackalopes, but after losing four straight at the Jackshack the team found its groove once again on the road with a Saturday night win over Rio Grande Valley.
Last week's record: 1-1-1
This week's games: Wednesday @ CRP, Friday vs. NMX, Saturday @ TUL
Tuesday vs. Arizona, 7-4 Loss
The Jackalopes took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission, but Arizona countered with four unanswered goals in the second period to pull away from the Jacks in a 7-4 final. Arizona's AJ MacLean and Odessa's Mike Ramsay each had three points on the night, but Marco Emond's 32 saves were the difference in the Sundogs win.
Friday vs. Rio Grande Valley, 5-4 (OT) Loss
The Odessa Jackalopes found themselves trailing 4-1 entering the third period. Mike Ramsay, Kory Karlander, and Josh Chase all scored for the Jacks to tie the game at 4-4 and force overtime - despite the Jacks having to kill off back-to-back, 5-on-3 power plays for the Killer Bees with less than eight minutes remaining in the third. The Jacks found themselves shorthanded once again in overtime and Travis Banga sealed the 5-4 win for Rio Grande.
Saturday @ Rio Grande Valley, 3-2 Win
The Jacks continued their road success in game two of their home-and-home series with Rio Grande as Russ Moyer netted two goals for Odessa. Kory Karlander added the other goal, and Juha Toivonen stopped 27 of 29 to earn his sixth win of the season. The road team has won every game in this season's series between Odessa and Rio Grande.
Wednesday @ Corpus Christi, 7:05 PM
It's the first of nine meetings this season between the IceRays and the Jacks. Last season Odessa went 1-3-0 against Corpus Christi. The Rays (5-6-1) are currently fourth in the Southeast Division, but six of their 12 games this year have been against Laredo, Oklahoma City, Mississippi, and Rio Grande Valley - who are a combined 37-15-4 this season.
Friday vs. New Mexico, 7:05 PM
Friday will be just the second time these two division opponents have met this season. The first meeting was a 9-2 Odessa victory which included Juha Toivonen making a season high 42 saves. The Scorpions (6-9-1) are currently five points behind Odessa for first place in the Southwest. Friday is "Cap Giveaway Night" sponsored by 1st Staffing, Newswest 9 and Wild 96.1.
Saturday @ Tulsa, 7:35 PM
The Oilers and Jackalopes begin a four game season series on Saturday night at the new BOK Center in Tulsa. Last season Tulsa (4-8-1) beat the Jacks in two meetings, 3-2 (SO) and 4-0. No one on the Jacks squad recorded more than one point against the Oilers last year. Tulsa is currently fourth in the Northeast Division with nine points this season, tying them with Rocky Mountain and Wichita for the second-worst record in the CHL.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is currently in its 12th season. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
