November 24, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Nov. 21 vs. Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, 5-2 Loss - The Rage were sparked in the early going by a short-handed goal from Aaron Davis and took a 1-0 lead to intermission. The game got away from the team in the second period, though, when the Mudbugs hung a four-spot on the board before the clubs traded goals in the third for the final result.
Nov. 22 vs. Rapid City Rush, 4-3 Shootout Win - Scott Wray recorded a natural hat trick in the second period to give Rocky Mountain a 3-1 lead. But despite a 45-15 edge in shots by the end of the game, the Rage still found themselves in a 3-3 tie mid-way through the third. The teams eventually reached a shootout, where David Morelli, Davis, and Colt King all tallied and goaltender Marty Magers stoned three of four Rush shooters to finally secure the victory.

WRAYZER'S TRICK
Scott Wray's performance on Saturday marked the Rage's first hat trick of the season and the third natural hat trick (three consecutive goals in a game including both teams) in franchise history. Last season former Rocky Mountain forward Nathan Rosychuk recorded a natural hat trick, as did Simon Watson, who had an assist on all three of Wray's goals against the Rush to register the Rage's third playmaker (three assists in a game) of the season.
SHOOTING FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
The Rage's +30 shot margin on Saturday was a new team record, eclipsing the old mark of a +29 edge in shots on goal that the team reached on two occasions. Rocky Mountain was hoping history wouldn't repeat itself against Rapid City. The last time the club was a +29 it actually lost the game, 3-2, after out-shooting the Tulsa Oilers, 52-23, in last year's home finale. Wray had 12 of the Rage's 45 shots on goal to set a new team record for most shots in a game by an individual, which also tied the CHL season-high matched by two others (Sam Ftorek and Luke Lynes both of Amarillo).
COME FROM BEHIND EFFORT
Certainly no one will remember the shootout win over Rapid City as a come-from-behind victory, but that's what it was. For the first time this year the Rage prevailed when giving up the game's first goal. Prior to Saturday, the team was 0-6-0 when the opposition drew first blood.
GOAL STREAK
Aaron Davis extended his current goal-scoring streak to four consecutive games...barely. Despite seven shots on goal, he was kept off the score sheet through 65 minutes of regulation and overtime on Saturday. But because he scored the team's second goal in the shootout, he is credited with the game-winning tally and an official goal in the CHL league statistics.
MOVE IN THE STANDINGS
The Rage still have a long way to go get their record where they feel it should be, but the club did climb out of the Northwest Division cellar with its win over the Rush. With nine points apiece, Rocky Mountain and Wichita are now tied for third in the division standings. The Rage (4-8-1) are technically ahead of the Thunder (4-10-1) with a higher winning percentage because of two fewer losses.
