ODESSA, TX - On Friday night, the Jacks defeated the Wichita Falls Wildcats by a score of 4-2 to improve their mark at the Ector County Coliseum to 2-0-2 this season, and snapped the Wildcats seven-game winning streak in the process. The Jacks were looking for their first home sweep of the season Saturday against the same, Wichita Falls Wildcats.
After two glorious chances to take the lead early in the game, it was the Wildcats who came on to score first. Directly off a Trent Williams breakaway that was stopped by 'Cats goalie Austin Shaw, Nikita Litviak scored on a two-on-one coming back the other way to put the 'Cats up 1-0. At 16:58, the Wildcats added to their lead on a power play goal from Austin Beaulieu. His shot from the left circle beat Robin Johansson over his glove hand. Just 22 seconds late, Alex Falconer gave the Wildcats a 3-0 advantage. Robin Johansson was pulled in favor of Forbes Ploszaj, as the Jacks trailed 3-0 after one period.
In the second, Kevin Charyszyn scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season from the right side of Forbes Ploszaj went he took a pass out of the left wing corner from Austin Albrecht to put the 'Cats up by four goals. Paul Soubry put the 'Cats up by five goals at 3:50 off of a rebound in the slot. Ploszaj was replaced by Robin Johansson in the net for the rest of the contest. Dallas, Texas native Trent Williams got the Jacks on the board at 9:47 of the period off a secondary effort in a mad scramble in front of the Wildcats goal. Just 30 seconds later, Razmuz Waxin-Engback scored a goal for his mom in the crowd all the way from Sweden, on a shot from the left side past the glove of Austin Shaw. It was 5-2 going into the third.
After many chances throughout the frame, Lane Valimont finally lit the lamp for the Jacks at 17:01 on a screen shot from the right point to make it a two-goal contest. The Jacks pulled their goalie with over 2:00 to go to try and finish the comeback. Kenny Hausinger scored his third goal in the last three games at 18:57 to pull the Jacks to within a goal. In the dying seconds, the Jacks had a chance to tie. With a scramble in front of the 'Cats goal, no Jackalope was able to locate the puck and the Wildcats just barely hung on to a 5-4 hockey game.
