Keystone Ice Miners News Release
CONNELLSVILLE, PA - Matt Jones continuted his strong play, Noah Batis broke a goal drought, and Joey Sofo netted his first NAHL goal, as the Keystone Ice Miners picked up their first home win in over two months with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at the Ice Mine against the Springfield Jr. Blues.
The Ice Miners scored first for the third straight game when Matt Jones finished off a Lordanthony Grissom point shot at 5:21 of the first period to make it a 1-0 game. That was the score through twenty minutes. In the 2nd period, Springfield tied the score with a powerplay goal from Petr Kuznetzov. Kevin Shand and Anthony Scarsella assisted on Kuznetzov's first of the season. However, just 46 seconds later, Keystone regained the lead when Noah Batis outmuscled the Jr. Blues defense and scored his team leading 9th goal of the season.
Leading 2-1 into the 3rd, the Ice Miners put the game away late when Joey Sofo scored his first NAHL goal, deflecting in an Austin Romzek backhand shot on the powerplay. Alex Blankenburg was strong in net, stopping 29 of 30 shots for his 6th victory of the season. With Keystone's win combined with Michigan's victory over Soo and Janesville's over Johnstown, there is a 4-way tie for 3rd place in the North between the Ice Miners, Jr. Blues, Tomahawks, and Warriors.
Keystone and Springfield play again tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 at the Ice Mine. It is fan appreciation day - foam fingers will be given away to the first 200 fans and prizes will be raffled off every 15 minutes.
