Wenatchee Wild News Release
After sweeping Kenai River 2 games to none last weekend, the Brown Bears have now traveled to Wenatchee for a 2 game rematch series on the Wild's home ice and are hungry for revenge. Tonight's game was forced into both an overtime and a shootout, which resulted in a 3-2 Kenai final. However, this game did give Wenatchee an extra point for the standings. The Wild currently have 23 total points and are only 5 points shy from tying the Corpus Christi Ice Rays for 4th place or taking the spot all together. Wenatchee is also only 7 points away from claiming the South Division's 3rd place spot.
Going into the first period, two Kenai River goals were scored and the Brown Bear's took the lead after the first 20 minutes. Evan Butcher was the first player to score in this match up, and with help from Jack Gessert, he was able to find the back of the Wild net at 3:17. With only 6 seconds remaining in the first, Gustav Berglund gave Kenai a 2-0 lead to head back to the locker room with. This power play goal was assisted by Maurin Bouvet and Ben Campbell.
Colin Burston gave Wenatchee their first goal of the night when he successfully put the puck behind Kenai goaltender Josh Creelman. The second period's lone goal was scored at 6:56 and was set up by Shane Cuckovich and Mike Coyne.
The Wild then proceeded to tie everything up in the third with a singular (extra attacker) goal from power forward David Powlowski. This point was scored at 19:50 and saw an assist from Ivan Bondarenko.
The overtime period saw no lit lamps which produced a shootout.
