
Jackal bats stay hot in victory

Little Falls, NJ â The Jackal bats again flourished at home, pounding out 11 hits, in an 8-5 victory over the Northeast League Aces.
New Jersey's bats would come to life early. In the first, the Jackals would forge a two out rally. Wady Almonte and Kevin Grijak both singled. The next two batters, Scott Goodman and Carlos Pagan doubled, driving in three.
The Aces would chip away at the lead with two runs in the top of the second. Mike Davis led off with a single. The following batter reached on an error. Designated hitter Greg Schmidt then came up to bat, and he singled scoring one. Schmidt then crossed the plate on a wild pitch for the second run.
In the third, the Aces would tie up the ballgame. Stephen Larkin singled, and two batters later, J.P. Schmidt would hit a ground ball to shortstop Juan Infante. Infante committed an error on the throw, allowing Larkin to score.
But the Jackals would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth, as they would again put three on the board with a two out rally. Juan Infante doubled. John Anderson then singled, scoring Infante. Zack Smithlin then singled. With two on, Wady Almonte then doubled scoring both runners, to make the score 6-3.
New Jersey would add an additional run to their total. Infante singled, and was awarded on a throwing error by the shortstop Eustaquio Garcia. Infante then stole third. On a passed ball, Infante broke for home, and he scored.
The visiting Aces cut the Jackals lead by two in the top of the seventh off New Jersey reliever Evan Neiser. With Schuyler Doakes aboard, Colby Smith homered over the left field wall to make it a 7-5 game.
Craig Conway hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth to add another run to the Jackals cushion
Ben Grezlovski closed the game out for New Jersey in the ninth, and got the save.
Jackal starter Mike Perkins was awarded the victory in this first start of the season. Starting pitcher Brandon Bowe got the loss for the Aces.
The Jackals and the Aces conclude their three game series on Sunday, June 13, 2004. It's Teacher Appreciation Day at Yogi Berra Stadium. Admission is free for all teachers who come with proper teacher identification. It is also a Senior Citizen Sunday. Admission is half price for all fans over age 65. On Friday, June 18, 2004, the Quebec Le Capitales come to Yogi Berra Stadium. While the Jackals were in Quebec, a game was suspended due to league curfew rules. The final two innings will be concluded prior to the Friday evening game. The first contest will be completed at 5:30 p.m. The originally scheduled game will begin at 7:05 p.m.
