New Haven County Cutters News Release

When the New Haven County Cutters open their next homestand Monday, they will have the opportunity to stake their claim to supremacy in the South Division standings against the New Jersey Jackals. The two divisional rivals will be poised to duke it out in a four-game series at historic Yale Field starting Monday at 7:05 p.m.

With only one more series to play against the Jackals before the All-Star break (July19-21), this series is particularly important time for the Cutters to make a statement; the Northeast League awards postseason berths to division leaders at the conclusion of each half of the season. Given the brisk pace of the first-half pennant race, the Cutters can make great strides toward contending for the Northeast League Championship this September with a series win over New Jersey.

After taking on the Jackals, New Haven County will hit the road for a weekend series against the Bangor Lumberjacks before returning to Yale Field for three games against the Quebec Les Capitales June 21-23. Then the North Shore Spirit will visit for a three-game weekend set June 25-27 contest.

Cutters Looking for Charity Partners

The New Haven County Cutters are more than a baseball team trying to win a championship. They are, in fact, an organization eager to reach out to everyone in New Haven County. To that end, the Cutters are looking to team up with area charities to give back to the community that has given the team a home.

If you are affiliated with a charity, call Ken Wieczorek at (203) 777-5636, extension 27. The Cutters have plenty of ideas on how to help your group, including ticket fundraisers, which allow the partner group to sell Cutters tickets and keep half of the proceeds; mascot or player appearances, merchandise auctions and collection drives are also possible. You can even share with us your own idea.

It All Comes Down to Pitching

As the old baseball maxim goes, "Good pitching beats good hitting." That might explain why the New Haven County Cutters have gotten off to such a good start, as their pitching staff has turned out the best team earned run average in the Northeast League. Through June 11, Cutters pitching had allowed a 2.98 ERA, and Jordy Alexander is atop the league leaders with an ERA of 1.35 and is tied for the Northeast League lead in strikeouts with 21 strikeouts.
