It's All About the Fans: Fan Fest Set for April 11

WALDORF, MD - Constantly looking for ways to celebrate the unwavering support of the Southern Maryland community and its residents, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs are excited to announce that their annual Fan Fest is scheduled for Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Operating under the banner of "My Maryland, My Blue Crabs" during the 2015 season, this will be the eighth annual Fan Fest that the Blue Crabs will host. The FREE event will feature live music and attractions throughout the ballpark and is the first chance for fans to meet the 2015 Blue Crabs team. Throughout the day, Blue Crabs players will be staffing various tables and booths as well as the box office and Crab Shack Team Store.

Returning for a second year at the Fan Fest is the unquestionably popular "Crustacean Nation Softball Faceoff." The softball game will once again give 16 fans the opportunity to team up with Blue Crabs players under the leadership of Pitching Coach Dan Reichert and Hitting Coach Jeremy Owens. The first 16 fans to register for the softball game will be divided into two teams. Fans can register by making a $35 donation, which will be matched by the Blue Crabs, to benefit a charity of the winning team's choosing. Registrants will receive a spot in the softball game, four (4) tickets to Opening Day on April 24 and on-field recognition before the game on Opening Day. New for the 2015 iteration of the Crustacean Celebration, the Blue Crabs will host their first-ever SPAM®-eating contest to promote the July 5 "Tribute to SPAM's 78th Birthday" Blue Crabs game. The contest will pit fans against one another in a tournament-style competition that will see the overall winner receiving a supermarket shopping spree.

In honor of the season long Home, Sweet Homers campaign, the Blue Crabs will also give fans a chance to win a complete living room makeover with another unprecedented competition. Participants will be tasked with keeping one hand on a Blue Crabs specified piece of furniture longer than any other participants. The last remaining contestant will win the grand prize and will be recognized on-field on Opening Day. To register for either contest, please contact Greg Jensen at gjensen@somdbluecrabs.com.

As an event that is perfect for kids of all ages, this year's fan fest will feature plenty of activities for even the youngest Blue Crabs fans! Most notably, kids are invited to play on the inflatables in the Kid Zone for FREE. The April 11 event marks the first time that fans are able to purchase single game tickets for the 2015 season, and the Regency Furniture Stadium box office will be open for the entirety of the event.

Fan Fest also represents the first time that fans have a chance to meet the 2015 Blue Crabs team in its entirety during the full-team autograph session that will take place on the concourse at 11:30 a.m.

"I think that it is exciting that we are able to host another Crustacean Celebration with even more avenues for enjoyment than we had last season," said Blue Crabs Assistant General Manager Courtney Knichel. "On top of giving fans a chance to meet the team and get excited for the baseball season, we really are featuring some unique and entertaining additions to the Fan Fest that our fans have never seen before."

Once again returning to Fan Fest is the St. Charles Running Festival. The running event will consist of three different distances (10 miles, five kilometers and a kids fun run) and proceeds from the event will benefit University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center.

The fifth annual Running Festival will lead 10-mile and five-kilometer runners on a scenic and generally flat course that begins and ends at Regency Furniture Stadium while fun run participants will participate on a course inside the stadium.
