Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - In a scene eerily reminiscent of last Saturday night's game in Cleveland, the Phantoms dominated the Norfolk Admirals in every aspect but the score in a 2-1 loss at the Wachovia Spectrum. Tampa Bay goaltending prospect Karri Ramo was spectacular, making 38 saves on 39 shots to earn first star honors.

The Phantoms applied constant pressure throughout the first half of the game, but could not solve Ramo. He turned aside chance after chance for Philadelphia, including one late in the first period when he dove to his right to block a yawning open net. The game was scoreless after the first period.

With the Phantoms holding a 23-9 shot advantage, the Admirals scored on their 10th shot and what was arguably their first good scoring chance in the game. The goal came at the 10:56 mark fo the second period on a breakaway by Dustin Keller. A Phantoms defender had lost his stick at the blue line and the Ads broke out 2-on-1. Kyle Wanvig fed the puck ahead to Keller, who got past his man about 10 feet inside the Phantoms blue line and went in all alone on Brian Boucher, making a deke and then jamming it under the netminder's right leg for the 1-0 advantage.

But the Phantoms were finally able to solve Ramo with 6:15 remaining in the frame. They were operating on their fourth power play and working low in the zone with pressure on the crease. Ramo was down and out at the top of his crease when Jared Ross sent a puck through the mess from the left side to Ryan Potulny in the right circle. He carefully wound up and fired the puck into the vacant right side of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

The Admirals were able to convert again with 13:06 remaining in the game on their 14th shot. This time it was a 2-on-1 situation involving Karl Stewart and Blair Jones. Stewart fed Jones inside the left circle and he blasted it past Boucher for the game-winner.

With the loss, the Phantoms have now dropped three in a row for the first time this season. Boucher absorbed the defeat with 14 saves on 16 shots.
