Isotopes Fall to Express, 14-3

Albuquerque, NM - The Express plated runs in seven innings and tallied 18 hits en route to a 14-3 triumph over the Isotopes Saturday night at Isotopes Park.

In the box, Albuquerque recorded eight hits and two homers. Carlos Pérez (two-run) and Coco Montes (solo) each hit dingers. Three Isotopes tallied two hits: Elehuris Montero, Pérez and Sean Bouchard.

Round Rock took a 1-0 lead in the first once again on a Steele Walker RBI double. Their lead grew to 3-0 in the third behind a Josh Smith RBI triple and Leody Taveras sac fly.

After the Express added another run to their tally in the fourth Albuquerque plated three runs on back-to-back jacks from Pérez and Montes in the home half of the inning. Round Rock led, 4-3. But the Express scored two runs in their next at-bat on a Zach Reks two-run clout, giving them a 6-3 advantage.

Round Rock then plated four in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the ninth to take a commanding 14-3 lead.

Zach Neal took the loss, his fourth of the year, after allowing six runs on nine hits, one homer and one walk with five punchouts.

Topes Scope: - Round Rock has plated a run in the first frame in three of the five games this series.

-The Isotopes haven't won three-straight since May 1-5 vs. Oklahoma City.

-Pérez hit his first homer since May 3 at Oklahoma City (26 at-bats). He also tallied his sixth multi-hit effort of the year. Pérez extended his on-base streak to 14, one shy of the team-high (15) set by Scott Schebler.

-Montes hit his first Triple-A clout in the fourth inning. It was also his first homer since Aug. 29, 2021, when he was with Double-A Hartford (175 at-bats). He also extended his on-base streak to 13.

-The Isotopes hit back-to-back homers for the third time this year when Pérez and Montes went deep in the fourth (last: Bernard and Bouchard, April 28 vs. Tacoma).

-Neal has allowed at least six runs in three of his nine games (eight starts and one piggyback relief appearance).

-Bret Boswell's 11-game on-base streak was snapped after an 0-for-4 night.

-Vilade batted leadoff for Albuquerque and was 0-for-4 with a walk. He is batting .213 (19-for-89) when hitting first or second in the lineup as compared to .340 (17-for-50) from the seven-hole. He extended his on-base streak to 12 with the walks.

-The Isotopes allowed double-digit runs for the 11th time this season. They are 0-11 in those contests. The 14 runs scored are tied for the second-most on the season (3x, last: April 30 vs. Sacramento).

-Julian Fernandez has allowed a run in 12 of his 18 appearances.

-Dom Nuñez is just 6-for-42 (.143) since being sent down to Triple-A May 17.

-Round Rock's Steele Walker tallied five hits. The last opponent to register five knocks was Mickey McDonald Aug. 22, 2021, at Las Vegas.

-The Express plated four runs in the sixth inning, the 11th time this year an opponent has scored four runs in an inning.

-Bouchard registered his eighth multi-hit effort and extended his on-base and hitting streak to 10. His 10-game hitting-streak is the longest by a Tope this year.

-The Isotopes allowed 18 hits-the second-most in a game this year. On Deck: Riley Smith with toe the slab in the series finale Sunday afternoon. He will be opposed by game one starter Kolby Allard. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm MT. The Isotopes will host their Salute to Services game as well as another postgame firework show.
