Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes held off a late rally by the Memphis Redbirds to claim a 5-4 win in the squad's penultimate Spring Training game today at Jupiter, Fla.
First baseman Jason Stokes continued his torrid spring by driving in two runs for Albuquerque, while catcher Paul Hoover and shortstop Robert Andino each hit doubles in the winning cause. Infielder Drew Niles also chipped in an RBI single for the victorious âTopes.
Left-handed starter Scott Olsen, who was optioned to Albuquerque from Florida on Wednesday, dazzled on the mound for Albuquerque, throwing four scoreless innings.
Sufficiently tuned-up, the Isotopes will play their final Spring Training contest on Saturday, April 1, when they face the Las Vegas 51s in Jupiter.
Albuquerque's season begins on April 6, when the team travels to Des Moines to take on the Iowa Cubs. The Isotopes home schedule will start on Friday, April 14 against the New Orleans Zephyrs for the beginning of a series loaded with great promotions. Opening night will feature a Sports Bag giveaway to the first 3,500 fans courtesy of Sandia Resort and Casino with the following night, April 15, featuring the first fireworks show of the 2006 season.
