Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes and Dion's Pizza restaurants are joining forces again on Club Read, an extremely popular community reading program that kicks off its fourth season tomorrow, February 2nd.

Club Read, which is open to students in preschool through sixth grade, is an incentive-based reading program in which a student can earn great Dion's and Isotopes gift packs by reading books throughout the spring and summer. To get started, students can pick up a Club Read brochure, which includes a special Club Read scorecard, at any Dion's location, Albuquerque/Bernalillo County libraries, participating Albuquerque Public School libraries, or at Isotopes Park.

Using the scorecard, which is shaped like a baseball diamond, students round the bases with each book they've read, culminating with a "home run" after they've completed nine books. After their first home run, students automatically get a Dion's gift pack including a gift certificate for Dion's food, a bookmark, pencil, Orbit trading cards and other great merchandise. They will also get another scorecard that they can use to work toward a second home run, which entitles them to an official Club Read T-Shirt, a coupon for a Coke at Isotopes Park, and more 'Topes merchandise. Those that complete two homers will also be entered into a drawing for the Club Read Grand Prize, which includes a night for four in Dion's luxury suite to see the 'Topes take on the Oklahoma RedHawks on August 31st, a free large Dion's pizza, honorary first pitch duties, as well as limo transportation to and from the game.

Since Club Read's inception in 2004, the program has had more than 100,000 participants, who have read more than 120,000 books, making the program one of the largest of its kind in the state of New Mexico. In 2006 alone, participation extended well beyond Albuquerque to Los Lunas, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe, Edgewood, Moriarty, Farmington, and Las Cruces.

Albuquerque begins its 2007 Triple-A All-Star campaign on April 5th. For information on All-Star Fiesta ticket plans, season tickets and mini-plans, please call (505) 924-BALL or visit www.albuquerquebaseball.com.
