Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: Kyle Parker drove in three runs, but the El Paso Chihuahuas (45-45) held off the Albuquerque Isotopes, 5-3, in the finalgame before the All-Star Break on Sunday night at Southwest University Park in El Paso, TX. Parker delivered a pair of two-out, RBI singles in the first and fifth innings. He also plated a third run in the seventh inning with a groundout and finished the game 3-for-5. The Isotopes (41-50), who still won three of five games in the series and went 5-4 on their roadtrip.
THE TURNING POINT: In the third inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, El Paso third baseman Cody Decker singled home two runs to extend the Chihuahuas lead to 4-1. Isotopes starter Jon Gray departed after 82 pitches and three innings. A lot of long at-bats, due to lots of foul balls, contributed mightily to his pitch count soaring in three innings. He struck out six and walked two.
SEE YA SIMON: Reliever Simon Castro retired all nine batters that he faced in relief, including four strikeouts, to keep the Topes in the game. Scott Oberg pitched in his first game for the Topes since April, giving up a run in the seventh inning. In all, the Topes bullpen allowed one run in five innings.
YNOA WHAT I MEAN?: Infielder Rafael Ynoa continues to be a sparkplug at the top of the Isotopes lineup. Ynoa has base knocks in nineof the 10 games he's played in with the Isotopes. In those 10 games, Ynoahas reached base safely in 15 of 44 plate appearances (.341 on-base percentage) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and two RBI.
THE STORY ON TREVOR: Isotopes infielder Trevor Story participated in the prestigious All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, and delivered an RBI single in his two at-bats. Story will rejoin the Isotopes on Thursday, when they come out of the All-Star Break with the opener of a four-game series against the Las Vegas 51s (Mets).
ATTA-BOY ADAMES: Infielder Cristhian Adames went 1-for-5 and has hit safely in 23 of his last 26 games. Adames, along with his wife and their two children, are heading for Omaha, Neb. to represent the Isotopes and Rockies in the Triple-A All-Star Game at Warner Park. Adames is replacing Matt McBride, who was forced to skip the game due to an ankle injury suffered on July 3.
ON DECK: The Isotopes will enjoy a three-day All-Star break through Wednesday. Albuquerque returns home Thursday to face the Las Vegas 51s at 7:05 p.m.
