Zephyrs Defeat Round Rock 7-4, Head to All Star Break

Round Rock, TX - Vinny Rottino had two hits including a home run and drove home three runs as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Round Rock Express 7-4 in front of 9,390 fans at Dell Diamond on Sunday night.

The Zephyrs pounded out 14 hits in the contest and six players had multi-hit games. Marcell Ozuna had a hit in his fifth consecutive contest and it was an upperdeck home run in the fourth inning of the game.

Justin Nicolino (5-5) earned his first win as a Zephyr since May 23 vs El Paso. He worked six innings allowed two runs, one earned on six hits.

The Zephyrs bullpen worked its way in and out of trouble as the Express stranded 12 men on base in the game including five in the final two innings. Z's closer Nick Wittgren loaded the bases in the ninth with no one out. He got a couple of strikeouts and a fly ball to cap the win. Wittgren earned his eleventh save of the season.

The Zephyrs are 42-48 on the season, trail Round Rock by 10 1/2 games.  The Z's head into the all-star break with a losing record for the first time since 2011.

GAME NOTES

The Zephyrs will have two pitchers representing New Orleans at the All-Star Game. Andre Rienzo and Nick Wittgren will pitch for the Pacific Coast League.

The Z's dropped six of eight games at Round Rock this season and are 4-7 overall against the Express. New Orleans will host Round Rock in a five game set in August.

The Z's hit their 45th home run of the season.  The Zephyrs hit four home runs in the series and improved to 8-1 when hitting two or more home runs in a game.

The Marlins promoted infielder Donovan Solano and optioned pitcher Adam Conley to the Zephyrs.

The Zephyrs wrapped up a stretch of 20 of 27 games on the road.

The Zephyrs will enjoy three days off for the All-Star Break.

Monday - Triple A Home Run Derby will be televised on CST

Wednesday- Triple A All-Star Game will take place in Omaha. Game will be televised on MLB Network and 106.1. FM radio.

The Zephyrs return home on Thursday, July 16th against Colorado Springs for an eight game home stand.
