Isles Seek Revenge Tonight against Armada

Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Coming off a 3-1 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes just last night, the Charlottetown Islanders have little time to rest as they head to Blainville to take on the Armada Saturday night.

The two teams are familiar with each other, having faced off just last weekend. Armada starter Brendan Cregan was outstanding in that one, making 42 saves to give his team a 3-1 victory. This week, the Isles will look to find a way to beat the overage goalie with a little more firepower in the line-up.

Kevin Gursoy and Drew Johnston's return to the lineup paid immediate dividends, as both recorded goals in the victory. Gursoy's second period tally stood up as the game winner. The two were playing their first games coming off of separate injuries.

The victory came at a very opportune time for Charlottetown. With their victory and Moncton's loss to the Victoriaville Tigres, the Islanders have leapfrogged their Maritime Division rival for fifth overall in the Eastern Conference standings with a game in hand.

One area of concern for the Islanders heading in to this game will be their powerplay. The Isles went just 1/6 against the Cataractes last night, a team that holds the dubious distinction of having the worst penalty kill in the league. If the Isles want to be successful against the Armada, they'll have to find a way to crack the scoresheet with the man advantage.

The Islanders aren't the only team in the midst of a playoff positioning battle. Currently sitting seventh in the Western Conference, the Armada would face off against the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the first round of the QMJHL Playoffs if they started today. With that said, Blainville is just three points back of fifth overall in the conference and a more optimal first-round matchup against the Victoriaville Tigres.

All of the points at this stage of the season mean a little bit more to both teams tonight. You can catch all of the intense action on the airwaves tonight with George Matthews and Darcy Cudmore on Ocean 100's Saturday Night Hockey!
