Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders' home opener was nothing short of exciting, scoring four goals in the first period en route to a 6-1 win over the Halifax Mooseheads.

Alexis Michaud led the way with four points in the win, while rookie defenseman claimed first star honours scoring the opening goal of the game and his first career goal on home ice.

Conrad's goal set the tone for the rest of the game as the Isles garnered sustained pressure, eventually drawing a penalty shot for Michaud, where he would bury his first of the season, doubling up on their lead.

Although the Isles had all the momentum, thirteen minutes into the frame, the Isles took their third penalty of the period, allowing the Mooseheads to get some pressure of their own.

On the Halifax power play, Aksels Ozols made an incredible cross-crease save to keep the Mooseheads off the board.

Michaud responded quickly with his second goal and third point of the period making it 3-0 Isles taking advantage of a Mooseheads' defenceman fumbling the puck in front of the goal.

The offence kept coming in the first as Lucas Romeo would score his first of the 2023-24 campaign with just under a minute to go in the frame, sending the Isles into the first intermission up 4-0.

In the first minute of the second period the offensive flash continued as Giovanni Morneau was in all alone on Mooseheads goaltender, Jack Milner, but was denied.

After some Halifax chances turned aside by Ozols, Michaud would try to go for the hat-trick, but the shot was tipped out of play.

Halifax was gaining momentum but Carl-Ettienne Michel block a hard shot, not letting the puck reach Ozols.

In the final minute of the frame, the Mooseheads would crack Ozols as Logan Crosby scored the only goal for Halifax in the game.

The third period action kicked off with Romeo's second goal of the game, assisted by Ross Campbell, who had three assists in the game, and Owen Conrad, which would be his second assist of the game.

Even short-handed, the Isles offence kept pressing as Campbell would spin off a defender for a quick shot on Milner that was turned aside.

The captain, Michael Horth would add one more insurance goal for his third of the season to put the Isles up 6-1.

The Isles would play most of the last five minutes on a power play as Mooseheads forward Markus Vidicek received a five-minute misconduct for high-sticking Kyle Powers.

Charlottetown played hard until the final whistle with some scoring chances in the final minute, but the score at the end of the game stayed 6-1.

After the game, Owen Conrad expressed his appreciation from the fans.

"Their support means a lot to us and everyone in the room really gets going from their energy."

The Isles are back on the ice on Friday, September 29th as they take on the Moncton WIldcats at the Eastlink Centre. Puck drop is at 7:30. Purchase tickets here.
