Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced Center Kevin Colley has signed a one-year contract with the big club. The Islanders announced Colley's signing today.

"Kevin earned this contract by giving his all night after night last season with the Sound Tigers," said Islanders General Manager Mike Milbury. "He gives the level of effort coaches dream of having from all of their players. He's a candidate to play for the Islanders next season."

"I'm very happy for Kevin that he earned a contract from the Islanders," said Sound Tigers Head Coach Greg Cronin. "Because of his hard work, he improves every day as a player. At only 25 years old, his game still has another level."

Colley posted AHL-career highs of 12 goals, 19 assists, 31 points, 122 penalty minutes and 78 games played with the Sound Tigers last season. The 31 points were sixth-best on the team while the 122 penalty minutes were second-highest. Limited to just three postseason games by a pair of AHL suspensions, he still managed to score a game-winning goal while notching 12 penalty minutes during this spring's Calder Cup Playoffs. Colley won the team's 2003-04 Fan Favorite Award by a vote at www.soundtigers.com.

Colley, who was born in New Haven where his father Tom played for the AHL's Nighthawks from 1973 through 1980, first joined the Sound Tigers on an AHL contract last summer after posting 33 goals, 38 assists, 71 points and a team-high 190 penalty minutes in 50 regular-season contests, as well as 13 goals, seven assists, 20 points and 27 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games with the ECHL's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in 2002-03. He was tied for the postseason goal-scoring lead with 13 markers and was named most valuable player of the playoffs leading Atlantic City to the 2003 ECHL Kelly Cup Championship. Colley also appeared in 22 AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch and Worcester IceCats in 2002-03 posting two goals, three assists, five points and six penalty minutes in 16 games with Syracuse and one goal, one assist, two points and 27 penalty minutes in six games with Worcester.

Colley played for the Boardwalk Bullies, as well as the AHL's Providence Bruins and Rochester Americans in 2001-02. He split the 2000-01 season between the ECHL's New Orleans Brass and Pensacola Ice Pilots and spent the majority of his first professional season, 1999-2000, with the ECHL's Dayton Bombers while also appearing with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and ECHL's Charlotte Checkers that same year. Colley played three seasons, 1996-99, of junior hockey with the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals.

The 2004-05 season will be the Sound Tigers' fourth in Bridgeport and fourth as the Islanders' top affiliate.
