The Charlottetown Islanders are proud to be teaming up with the Toys for Tots campaign to help provide some families with the opportunity to catch some hockey in the New Year.

The Islanders are donating 60 5-game packs to the campaign, with the aim of getting families to the Eastlink Centre who may not otherwise have the opportunity to do so.

Toys for Tots is an annual campaign that helps to distribute gifts to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.

It's important to give everybody the chance to come out and support their local team, said Islanders President of Operations Craig Foster.

"When you're a kid, Christmas is all about the presents, so we're excited to be a part of this campaign and help out," he said. "Not all families can afford to bring their kids to the rink every weekend. We want to help out and give some kids the chance to catch a live game."

Daniel Roode, Corps Officer for the Salvation Army, said the Islanders' donation was particularly helpful in allowing the campaign to reach teenagers as well as children.

"The Salvation Army really appreciates the fact the Islanders organization has been so generous in allowing these tickets to go to folks who perhaps would not be able to enjoy the opportunity to attend games. It's a great Christmas gift."

For Islanders captain Quinn O'Brien, hockey was a huge part of his childhood, and he's excited that other kids will get the same opportunity.

"We love seeing kids in the stands during games," he said. "I loved going to hockey games as a kid so it's awesome that the organization is contributing to such a great cause."
