New Jersey Jackals News Release
Newark, NJ - Isaac Pavlik is the new Jackals wins leader.
With his 60th win Monday night, this week's Pitcher of the Week Isaac Pavlik surpasses Joel Bennett for the all-time record. He allowed one run on six hits in seven innings, helping the Jackals to a 10-2 win over a Newark Bears team that scored 16 runs combined the previous two games. Pavlik improves to 5-0 this season.
On a hot-turned-cool night just outside New York City, the Jackals offense took off, tying a season high with 20 hits.
In the third inning, Matt Cusick and Player of June Nick Giarraputo hit back-to-back home runs. Francisco Caraballo followed suit two batters later to go up 5-0. More on Cusick later.
Giarraputo, Carlos Guzman, and Carraballo connected on three straight doubles in the sixth inning to start another four-run inning.
Bryan Sabatella led the offense with four singles. Caraballo, Giarraputo, and Angel Berroa all chipped in with three hits a piece.
Despite 20 hits, not all was great for the Jackals offensively. New Jersey set a new Can-Am record by hitting into six double plays. They hit into five earlier this season in their 11-inning victory against Quebec.
Matt Cusick hit into three alone - also a new Can-Am record.
Bears starter Brian Parker gave up nine runs in four-and-two-thirds innings. He drops to 0-5 this season and 0-12 in his Can-Am career.
With the win, the Jackals snap their modest two-game losing streak to improve to 24-18, five full games back of the idle Quebec Capitales.
Newark drops to 15-29, last place in the Can-Am standings.
Tomorrow, the Jackals start a four-game series against the dejected Rockland Boulders. Rockland is coming off three straight one-run losses, the latter two in walk-off fashion against the Capitales. New Jersey will send out Kyle Greenwalt (2-1, 3.63). New Jersey plays the first three games at the two-year old Provident Bank Park before coming home for the finale on Friday.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434. Notes
Matt Cusick hit his fourth home run of the season today, his fourth in the last five games. Cusick has hit more than four home runs in a season only once in his six-year career... The Jackals have hit into at least five double plays twice in the last 30 days. That feat was accomplished only one other time in Can-Am history (Worcester, 6/28/08)... @JackalsBaseball posted its 1,000th tweet before today's game...
