
IronPigs Take Opener in Extras

The IronPigs played extra innings for the second straight ball game this time on the road at NBT Bank Stadium. Scoring a pair of runs in the top of the tenth, Lehigh Valley reduced their magic number to five with a 4-2 victory against the Chiefs.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fifth, the IronPigs offense broke through against Phillips Valdez. Danny Ortiz who came into the game batting .337 over his last 28 games with four home runs and 16 RBIs continued to swing a hot bat. Ortiz homered to right-center field to tie the game at two against Valdez.
Drew Anderson did not factor in the decision but tossed six-strong innings for Lehigh Valley. He allowed eight hits and struck out five allowing just two runs. Mark Leiter Jr backed up Anderson with two innings of relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out one.
Heading into extras for the second straight game, the Pigs were able to score the placed runner against Austin Adams (1-3) with a RBI single by Andrew Knapp. Leading by one with the bases loaded, Zach Green was hit by a pitch to score a run and make it 4-2.
Tyler Gilbert (2-1) who tossed a scoreless ninth inning and earned the win for the IronPigs. Pedro Beato (31) held the Chiefs scoreless in the tenth inducing a double play ball to close out the game.
The IronPigs and Chiefs continue their three game set tomorrow night at 6:35. Ranger Suarez returns to the hill for Lehigh Valley against Austin Voth.
Only one home stand remains in the 2018 regular season as the Pigs host the RailRiders August 24th-27th. Fans can catch Friday Night Fireworks presented by Penn State Lehigh Valley, and the first 7,000 adults 18 and older can pick up a 2019 IronPigs wall calendar presented by Nacci Printing.
